During May and June 2025, two big names of Indian cricket Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retired from Test cricket, while the stars from other countries have also joined this link. The wave of this retirement has created a stir in the cricket world, and the fans are quite surprised by these decisions of their favorite players.
Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli farewell to Test
This time has been very emotional for India. On 7 May 2025, Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket, which shows the end of his captaincy and batting career. Just five days later, on 12 May 2025, Virat Kohli also said goodbye to the Test format. Both players brought Indian cricket to new heights, and their retirement has opened the way for the youth leadership in the team. Sri Lankan veteran all -rounder Angelo Mathews retired from Test cricket on 23 May 2025. Mathews contributed to his team for a long time, and his departure is a big setback for Sri Lanka cricket. Meanwhile, Australia’s explosive batsman Glenn Maxwell announced his retirement from ODI cricket on 2 June 2025. His decision created a new challenge for the Australian team. Heinrich Klassen of South Africa and Nicholas Puran of West Indies have announced to retire from international cricket. Klassen’s brilliant wicketkeeping and batting strengthened South Africa in many matches, but he retired at the age of 33. On the other hand, Nicholas Puran has said goodbye to international cricket at the age of just 29, which is even more shocking. It is believed that these two players have done this due to focusing on franchise cricket.
