In the first Test match between India and England being played in Leeds, the Indian team made a great start in the second innings, but the middle order and failure of lower order once again put the team in trouble. Due to the brilliant centuries of KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, India had scored 333 runs for 4 wickets at one time, but after that the batting was completely shattered. On reaching the score of 364 runs, India lost 10 wickets, which gave England a chance to return to the match.
Rahul-Pant scored centuries
On the fourth day of the match, India started its second innings at 90/2. KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant batted brilliantly and took over the Indian innings. Rahul played a brilliant innings of 137 runs, including 18 fours, while Pant scored 118 runs, with his aggressive style and sharp shots harassing the English bowlers. Both of them shared a 195 -run partnership for the fourth wicket, which brought India to 300 runs.
The pair of Rahul and Pant dominated the England bowlers in the first two sessions of the day. But after the break of tea, the Indian innings stumbled as Rahul was out. Rahul returned to the pavilion after being dismissed by Bridan Cars in the 84th over, then Team India’s score was 333 runs. After this, Team India could add 2 runs in their score and Karun Nair was also dismissed. Then on the score of 349, Shardul Thakur also lost his wicket. The shocking thing is that Mohammad Siraj and Jaspreet Bumrah were also dismissed before Team India carried forward his score. Then Team India went allout for 364 runs. That is, India lost their last 6 wickets by just 31 runs.
Something happened in the first innings too
In the first innings, a similar performance was seen by Team India batsmen. At one time India scored 430 runs at the loss of 3 wickets. But by reaching 471 runs, the entire team was all out. That is, India lost their 7 wickets within 41 runs in the first innings.
