Things change in cricket in any over, any ball and at any point of the match. The dice overturns. If a team makes a comeback, then a team loses the lead. A similar drama was seen in Colombo, away from the thrill of the Test series being played between India and England, where the ODI series between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh started. In the very first match of the series, hosts Sri Lanka did not score a big score but despite this the team registered a big win. The reason for this was Bangladesh’s batting, in which 7 wickets fell within just 5 runs and the match in hand slipped.
Asanka’s best century
After the thrilling Test series between Sri Lanka-Bangladesh, the ODI series between the two teams has also started and the first match of the series was filled with dramaticness. Sri Lanka batted first in this match but the team could not play even 50 overs. He scored only 244 runs in 49.2 overs. When the Sri Lankan team reached this score, the reason for it was Captain Charit Asanka, who introduced the best batting and scored a brilliant century. Actuals scored 106 runs in 123 balls. This was the 5th century of his ODI career.
The fall of the wicket after the fast start
This goal was not very big for Bangladesh and even after losing the first wicket for just 29 runs, the team was seen in a strong position. Opener Tanjid Hasan and former captain Najmul Hasan Shanto jointly shared a 71 -run partnership of 71 runs. Both of them had brought the team to 100 runs in the 17th over and the team looked easily moving towards victory. But this was the most shocking view here, when Bangladeshi batsmen started getting dismissed one by one. When the score was 100 runs, when Shanto was out on the third ball of the 17th over.
What was it then, there was such a fall of the wicket that 7 batsmen were dismissed for just 5 runs. While the score was 100 for 1 wicket by 16.2 overs, the score was only 105 runs by 20.5 and 7 wickets fell. The wickets kept falling on each run. Bangladesh’s defeat was decided from here. Although Jaaker Ali played a militant innings of 51 runs and reduced the team’s defeat, but still the entire team collapsed for 167 runs and Sri Lanka won the match by a big margin of 77 runs and took a 1-0 lead in the series.
