Arjun Tendulkar, son of master blaster Sachin Tendulkar, is in discussion these days due to his engagement. On July 13, Arjun engaged with Sania Chandok, granddaughter of Sachin’s old friend. While it is discussing it everywhere, Arjun’s eyes will now be on the new domestic cricket season, where he will again come on the field from Goa. For Arjun, who has failed to achieve great success so far, this season can be a change because this time he will work with a coach who had greeted the batsmen of the Afghan team.
These coaches are Milap Mewada, who will take over the responsibility of Goa’s team in this domestic season. Milap Mewada was appointed as its head coach for the 2025-26 season by the Goa Cricket Association in July itself. This time the Goa team will play in the Elite Division of Ranji Trophy, which will start from October 15. Goa qualified for Elite Division by winning the plate division title last season. Then the coach of the team was former Indian all -round Dinesh Mongia but he was not available for this season, due to which the Goa Association appointed Mewada.
Milap sat on the bench for 70 matches
Now it is important to know who Mewada is and that because his story is very special. Milap was a wicketkeeper-batsman and Baroda was part of the cricket team and could never reach the Indian team. But he was able to play only 11 matches for his Ranji team and the reason for this is not less shocking. The reason for this was revealed by former cricketer Irfan Pathan during a show, who himself comes from Baroda. Irfan said that during his career, Mewada had to sit on the bench till 70 Ranji matches and wait for his turn because during that time there were veterans like Nayan Mongia and Kiran More in Baroda’s team and in his presence, Mewada had to work only to feed water.
Afghanistan’s batting improved
Irfan described Milap Mewada as one of the finest coaches of India and credited him for the improvement in the batting of the Afghan team. Irfan said that before the World Cup 2023, Rashid Khan of Afghanistan had asked him about the batting coach, in response to which Irfan told him the name of Milap Mewada. Irfan told during this time that after 6 months, Rashid approached him about Mewada and then Mewada decided to join the Afghan team instead of BCCI’s National Cricket Academy.
Irfan said that Mewada worked with every Afghanistan batsman for one year and its impact was shown as an improvement in 2 consecutive World Cups and then the team’s batting. Mewada made a first class debut for Baroda in the 1998-99 season and played the last match in 2005 but this time he got a chance in the playing XI only 11 times, in which he scored 242 runs and made 40 hunt behind the wicket.
