GT vs CSK 2025 : Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was candid in his assessment after his side suffered a heavy 83-run defeat at the hands of Chennai Super Kings in their final league stage match at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Chasing a mammoth 231, GT crumbled to 147 all out, putting in a performance well below their usual standards.
Speaking after the game, Gill pointed to the opening overs as the decisive moment in the match.
“We lost the game in the powerplay itself. Once that phase was gone, we couldn’t recover. Chasing over 230 is never easy,” said Gill.
CSK Batters Punish GT Bowlers
After being put in to bat, CSK’s top order came out firing. Urvil Patel provided early momentum with a rapid 37 off 19, while Devon Conway added a solid 52 from 35. Later, Dewald Brevis exploded with a blistering 57 from just 23 deliveries, supported by a calm cameo from Ravindra Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 21. CSK ended on a formidable 230/5.
GT’s bowling attack struggled to contain the flow of runs. Only Prasidh Krishna managed to stand out with figures of 2 for 22.
Titans Falter Under Pressure
GT’s response with the bat lacked any real spark. Wickets fell regularly, and no one managed to anchor the chase. Sai Sudharsan showed some fight with a 28-ball 41, but CSK’s bowlers remained in control throughout. Noor Ahmed (3/21), debutant Anshul Kamboj (3/13), and Ravindra Jadeja (2/17) combined to dismantle the Titans’ batting lineup in just 18.3 overs.
Gill Emphasizes Mental Toughness and Middle-Over Tactics
Gill admitted that the pressure of chasing such a huge total and facing a team with no playoff hopes proved too much.
“When you’re up against a team that has nothing to lose, they play freely. We couldn’t hold our nerves,” he said.
He also pointed to the middle overs as a phase where his side failed to apply pressure.
“In games like this, controlling the middle overs is key. You need to take wickets and keep the run rate in check. If you don’t, it becomes very tough.”
Despite the loss, Gill looked ahead to the remainder of the campaign with optimism.
“It hurts, for sure. But we’ve got a few important games left. Personally, I’m excited to play the next match back home.”
CSK Sign Off With a Win, GT Await Playoff Fate
CSK, already out of playoff contention, ended their season on a high, finishing with four wins and 10 defeats (8 points). GT, on the other hand, wrapped up their league phase with nine wins and five losses, earning 18 points. Their position in the top two now hinges on other results.
