Qualifier 2 of IPL 2025 became a historic match, in which Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians not only to make it to the finals, but also made a new record. In this match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Punjab Kings performed amazing and confirmed their place in the final after 11 years. At the same time, Mumbai team’s dream of winning the title for the sixth time was broken. Punjab did something against Mumbai, which no team could do before.

In this exciting match, Punjab achieved a huge target of 204 runs, which is the biggest successful run chase ever in IPL playoffs and knockout matches. With this, Punjab broke the unstoppable record of Mumbai, in which Mumbai won 18 matches after targeting more than 200 runs. This was the first time Mumbai also faced defeat by scoring 200+ runs.
Mumbai, batting first, performed brilliantly and scored 203 runs in 20 overs. His batsmen played aggressively, but Punjab bowlers stopped the score from reaching 210-220 with some important wickets in the last over. In response, the Punjab team played a tremendous game. His batsmen started scoring runs in the powerplay itself, which put pressure on the bowlers of Mumbai. There were some shocks in the middle order, but the Punjab batsmen did not lose courage and kept the match exciting till the last over. Finally, Captain Shreyas Iyer Punjab won this historic victory with a brilliant finish.
11 year old record broken
Earlier, the biggest run chase in IPL playoffs was done by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) against Punjab, when he scored a target of 200 runs. At the same time, in 2012, Kolkata had a target of 191 runs in the final against Chennai Super Kings. But Punjab, chasing 204 runs, left both these records behind. The biggest reason behind this played Shreyas Iyer’s captaincy innings. Shreyas Iyer won his team by scoring an unbeaten 87 off 41 balls. At the same time, now he will face RCB in the final.
