Ravi Shastri Wankhede Stadium honor : The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has been urged to honor Robi Shastri at Wankhede Stadium. Last month, some parts of the MCA Wankheder gallery were named after former cricketers and cricket officials. India’s ODI captain Rohit Sharma, former captain Ajit Wadekar and former BCCI president Sharad Pawar were named after.
It should be noted that the gallery is already in this iconic stadium in the name of Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar and Dilip Bengal. This time, former Mumbai captain Shishi Hatangadi wrote a letter to the MCA to name some of the names of Robi Shastri. According to him, not respecting Shastri is a ‘great surprise’ and ‘rejection of important contributions.’
‘Read this mistake’
In the letter, Hathangadi wrote, ‘I am surprised and anxious, the way Robbie Shastri – the former captain of India, all -rounder and coach – has not been named in any part. His achievement is well known. Whether it was a first-class match for six balls, or his contribution as a player and coach-all is unique in building India’s modern cricket. ‘
He also wrote, ‘This is excluded, whether deliberate or not, is a vital chapter in the history of cricket in Mumbai and India. I do not want to draw statistics, because the contribution of the Scriptures is reflected not only in numbers, but also its influence. ‘
‘Just observation, not political statement’
In the letter, Hathangadi wrote to MCA, ‘Respecting the history and personalities of cricket will strengthen the foundation of our future. MCA should revisit this issue. I request the administration’s role and respect. ‘ He mentioned at the end, ‘This is just an observation, not a political statement.’
Robi Scripture’s contribution-
India played for 5 Tests and 5 ODIs.
He collected 5 runs and 20 wickets.
He was a member of the World Cup winning team.
India played a key role in winning India in the World Championship of Cricket in the 5th and was selected as the best tournament.
In one over, Ranji hit six sixes in a match of the trophy, touching Sir Gary Sobers’s record.
India has won the Test series twice as coach (25-5 and 2021-27).
He made India in the semifinals in the 20 ODI World Cup.
In this context, his name is undoubtedly ‘injustice’, not getting a place in the Wankhede Stadium.
