IPL 2025 No Cheerleaders : BCCI Set to Tone Down IPL 2025 Second Phase After Gavaskar’s Appeal

IPL 2025 No Cheerleaders : In a move that reflects the current national sentiment, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly planning a toned-down second phase of IPL 2025. There will be no cheerleaders, no DJs, and no extravagant entertainment between overs—just pure cricket. The decision comes in the wake of the recent Pahalgam attack and heightened India-Pakistan tensions.

Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar recently urged the BCCI to keep the remainder of the tournament solemn and focused solely on cricket. According to sources, the board is leaning towards honoring his request.

Gavaskar’s Emotional Appeal for Respect

Speaking about the sensitive national mood, Gavaskar said,

“Given what has happened recently and the loss of so many lives, I feel there should be no music during matches. The DJs should stop the celebrations between overs. Let the game be about cricket only. Let the crowd come and support, but let’s respect the emotions of the people by keeping it simple. There should be no cheerleaders dancing.”

This heartfelt message from the former Indian captain seems to have resonated with the board. Even before Gavaskar made his appeal public, discussions within BCCI hinted at plans to remove the glamour element from the second leg of IPL 2025.

IPL to Resume from May 17 with Changes

After a 9-day pause, the IPL will resume on May 17, and preparations are already underway. Franchises are gearing up, and the BCCI is reportedly finalizing logistical and structural changes.

In total, 13 league matches remain in the group stage, followed by the playoffs. However, not everything is going smoothly.

Foreign Players Reluctant to Return

One of the major concerns for franchises is the reluctance of several overseas players to return to India for the remainder of the tournament. The current geopolitical scenario and recent incidents have made some foreign cricketers hesitant to travel back.

To tackle this, the BCCI has allowed franchises to sign replacement players. However, there’s a catch—these replacements will not be available for the next IPL season. This could impact long-term squad planning for teams.

BCCI Focused on Completing the Tournament

While entertainment and commercial elements have always been a major part of the IPL, the focus now shifts to completing the tournament smoothly without drawing unnecessary attention or backlash.

A senior board official reportedly stated,

“Our priority is to complete the rest of the IPL. Given the current national environment, we believe it’s best to scale down the entertainment and focus solely on cricket.”

If the changes go through as expected, IPL fans should prepare for a cricket-only experience, possibly marking one of the most emotionally grounded editions of the tournament.
