Indian cricket veteran Sunil Gavaskar has questioned the name of the new trophy for the ongoing Test series between India and England. The recently started ‘Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy’ has been advocated by the name of Gavaskar to name ‘Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy’. Sunil Gavaskar has also given the reason behind this. This series was known as the Pataudi Trophy before the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

Gavaskar raised questions in the name of the trophy

Sunil Gavaskar believes that his name should come first in view of Sachin Tendulkar’s contribution and seniority. Gavaskar wrote in his column in mid -day that even though England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have the right to name the trophy according to their own, it is shocking to see James Anderson’s name before Tendulkar for Indian cricket fans. He said, ‘Sachin is not only one of the greatest cricketers in India, but he is also more than 12 years of age in age and career than Anderson. Tendulkar has no match in terms of runs and centuries in Test and ODI cricket.

Gavaskar praised Anderson and said that he had been a great bowler. But he also said that Anderson is third in the list of wickets in Test cricket and his record is not as good as Tendulkar in ODI cricket. Tendulkar is also a part of the World Cup winning team, who has no more Anderson. Anderson was a great bowler, but mainly in English conditions and his record is not as good as Tendulkar abroad. Not only this, he has also asked Indian fans to call it Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy.

These suggestions given on Pataudi medal

Earlier, Gavaskar also expressed displeasure over the decision to abolish the Pataudi Trophy. From 2007 to 2021, the Pataudi Trophy was given for the Indo-England Test series in England, which honored the contribution of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi and his father Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi. At the same time, now the winning captain will be given the Pataudi medal. He suggested that Pataudi Medal of Excellence, which will now be given to the captain who won the series, instead the man of the match of every Test match should be given. With this, the legacy of the Pataudi family will be remembered in every match, even if the series is drawn.
