There was a big ruckus in the session before the third day of this match. Actually, there was tension between the Indian team and the umpires over the ball. Indian players, especially Rishabh Pant and Mohammad Siraj, were unhappy with the ball’s position and demanded the umpires to change it, but the umpires turned down their demand.
Ruckus over the ball in Leeds
During the innings of England in the first session of the third day, the Indian team questioned the condition of the ball. According to him, the shape of the ball was damaged. In the 61st over, wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant took the ball to the umpire and demanded an inquiry. The umpire tested the ball with gauge (measuring equipment), and the ball easily passed through the gauge, which meant that the ball was fine according to the rules. But Pant did not look satisfied with this decision and angrily was seen beating the ball on the ground, which caused light tension on the field.
This dispute did not end here. Two overs later, in the 63rd over, fast bowler Mohammad Siraj also questioned the position of the ball and appealed to the umpire to change it. The umpire once again examined the ball from the gauge, and this time also the ball was found correct according to the rules. Due to which the umpire refused to change the ball, due to which disappointment was clearly seen in the Indian camp. Jasprit Bumrah also appeared while talking to the umpire during this time, but the umpire did not change his decision. This incident is now becoming quite viral on social media.
Second ball received in 75th over
However, after some overs, this demand of the players of Team India was accepted. Due to the worse condition of the ball, the umpire decided to change the ball after the 74th over. This decision was taken 6 overs before getting a new ball. Let me tell you, in the Test, every team is given a new ball after bowling 80 overs.
