Josh Hazlewood IPL 2025 Return : Major Boost Ahead of Crucial Clash vs KKR

Josh Hazlewood IPL 2025 Return : Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have received a major boost ahead of the IPL 2025 restart as Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood is set to return to India and rejoin the squad. The experienced fast bowler, who had flown back home following the IPL’s enforced pause, is now expected to bolster RCB’s bowling attack as they push for a spot in the playoffs.

While the exact date of Hazlewood’s arrival remains unconfirmed, sources close to the player have assured that he will be back in India shortly. His return is timely for RCB, especially with the tournament resuming on May 17 when they face Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a high-stakes match.

RCB’s Pace Attack Gets a Timely Boost

Hazlewood has been one of the standout performers for RCB this season, claiming 18 wickets in just 10 matches. He missed the team’s last league game due to a shoulder niggle, but his inclusion in Australia’s squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final eased concerns about his fitness.

A source familiar with the development stated, “Yes, Josh will travel to India. Discussions are underway regarding his arrival date, but he’s keen to contribute to RCB’s campaign.” His presence will be crucial as RCB looks to secure a top-two finish and, ultimately, their first-ever IPL title.

Australian and West Indies Stars Return to India

Hazlewood isn’t the only international star returning. Liam Livingstone and Romario Shepherd have already joined the RCB camp ahead of the weekend fixture. Shepherd arrived alongside fellow West Indies players Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, both of whom will feature for KKR, as well as KKR mentor Dwayne Bravo.

The West Indies are scheduled to begin their ODI series against England on May 29, which may create availability issues during the IPL playoffs. However, Cricket West Indies has yet to provide official clarity on player participation beyond that date.

From England’s side, Jacob Bethell has rejoined RCB too. While he was named in England’s white-ball squad against the West Indies, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) issued No-Objection Certificates (NOCs) for all IPL participants until May 25, the original final date of IPL 2025. Interestingly, Livingstone, having been dropped from England’s squads, is available through the rest of the season.

KKR’s Full Squad Assembles in Bengaluru

On the other side of the dugout, Kolkata Knight Riders have assembled a full squad in Bengaluru ahead of the May 17 clash. With no major withdrawals and a relatively stable overseas contingent, KKR appears well-prepared despite the mid-season break.

“KKR players and support staff have assembled in Bengaluru for our match vs RCB on 17 May,” the franchise confirmed.

The match is expected to be a high-octane contest, with both teams eyeing crucial points. For RCB, Hazlewood’s return could prove decisive, especially if captain Rajat Patidar, who is currently nursing an injury, is ruled out.

What’s Next for RCB?

With just a handful of league matches left, every game counts. RCB will be banking on the experience of Hazlewood to navigate this critical phase. His return not only strengthens the bowling unit but also lifts the team’s morale as they chase IPL glory.

As the IPL resumes after one of its most chaotic breaks in recent history, all eyes will be on Hazlewood and RCB. Can the Aussie quick fire them to their maiden title? The countdown begins.
