Team India made a strong comeback in the second Test match after losing the first Test match in Leeds. In the first 2 days of the second match of the Test series in Edgbaston, Team India pushed the host England to the backfoot. On the basis of captain Shubman Gill’s historic double century, Team India scored a big score like 587 runs in the first innings and brought the team to good position. But even by making such a big score, it can win this match not of Team India but only England. It will be surprising to read this, but we are not telling the figures.
Before reaching this story of statistics, Team knows a little about India’s innings. The second Test match between India and England started in Edgbaston from 2 July. On the first day of the match, Team India had scored 310 runs and captain Gill had scored a century. On the second day, Team India started playing further and Gill scored his first double century in Test cricket. Team India scored 587 runs on the basis of his 269 -run record innings.
England won the match every time
Now it is not easy to score about 600 runs in his own house against England. Also, whenever a team makes such a big score in the first innings in Test cricket, on most occasions it either wins or the match draws. In such a situation, 587 runs of Team India can give him some comfort. But the figures of the last 3 years can take away these rest.
In fact, this is just the fourth time since 2022 when a team against England scored more than 550 runs in an innings. But despite a score of more than 550 runs on all three occasions before this, England won the match in the end. Pakistan scored 579 runs in Rawalpindi in 2022, while New Zealand scored 553 runs in Nottingham in the same year. Then in 2024, Pakistan scored 556 runs by Multan. Despite these scores, England won all three matches.
Team India will change history?
Now, where Team India may have breathed a sigh of relief by scoring 587 runs, but after seeing these figures, captain Shubman Gill and coach Gautam Gambhir may have tension. However, the way the Indian bowlers started, they must have raised hopes of changing this history. By the end of the second day’s play, England had lost their 3 wickets for only 77 runs. Akash Deep took the wickets of Ben Docket and Oli Pope from 2 consecutive balls in the third over of the innings and then Mohammad Siraj returned the pavilion to Jack Croly.
