However, amidst this magnificent return of Archer, an old video is becoming increasingly viral on social media, which has given rise to controversy. In this video, Archer can be seen rubbing the ball on his gold chain. This is a violation of ICC rules, as rubbing the ball surface with an external object falls in the category of ball tampering. This type of action can help in reverse swinging the ball. Fans on social media have given various reactions about this video. Some people consider it a serious violation, while some say that it was a small act, which must have been done inadvertently. However, Archer has not done anything like this in Lord’s Test yet.

ICC rules on ball tampering
According to ICC rules, replacing the surface of the ball with an external substance or object is strictly prohibited. Players can only use sweat to brighten the ball, and that too under the supervision of the umpire. Rubbing the ball from a metal object, such as chain, is considered a violation of the rules and can be punished severely, including a fine, a cut in match fees or ban.
