Deepti Sharma Aarushi Goel Cheating Case : Deepti Sharma, the star all-rounder of the Indian women’s cricket team, finds herself in a troubling personal and legal battle. She has accused her fellow cricketer Aarushi Goel, who plays for Delhi and the UP Warriors, of cheating her out of more than ₹25 lakh and stealing precious valuables from her flat in Agra. According to the FIR filed recently, Aarushi allegedly entered Deepti’s home without permission and took away gold and silver jewellery along with foreign currency worth around ₹2 lakh.
What makes this case particularly painful is the history between the two players. Deepti and Aarushi were close friends, having shared the cricket field for years. The FIR suggests that Aarushi took advantage of this friendship, citing her family’s financial hardships to borrow money from Deepti repeatedly, but never repaid it.
Deepti’s brother, Sumit Sharma, who filed the complaint on her behalf at the Agra Sadar police station, spoke to the Times of India about the ordeal. “Over the last two years, my sister lost around ₹25 lakh. When we tried to talk to Aarushi about returning the money, she refused,” he said. The whole situation has been deeply upsetting for Deepti, who is currently away in Bengaluru with the national team preparing for their England tour.
Police have taken the matter seriously. ACP Sukanya Sharma confirmed that the FIR has been registered under several sections, including theft, housebreaking, breach of trust, and insulting someone intending to disturb peace. “After reviewing the complaint, we found sufficient grounds to initiate an investigation,” she said.
Aarushi Goel, meanwhile, is employed as a junior clerk with the Indian Railways in the Agra division. She was last seen playing in the Senior Women’s Inter-Zonal Multi-Day Trophy, representing Central Zone. As of now, there has been no public response from Aarushi or her representatives.
Deepti Sharma is not just an acclaimed cricketer but also a Deputy Superintendent of Police with the Uttar Pradesh Police role that adds another layer of complexity to this case. On the field, Deepti’s record is impressive, with over 2300 ODI runs and more than 130 wickets across formats. Off the field, this issue has caused her significant distress during an important phase of her career.
