There was a tough competition in the Test series between India and England and due to this the decision of the series reached the last match. In the fifth and last Test match at the Oval, the fast bowlers of both teams performed strongly in their first innings and no team could score a big score. The England bowlers were seen doing the same in the second innings, but this team made such mistakes, which benefited Team India.
India and England’s innings ended on the second day of the Oval Test match on Friday 1 August. India had scored 224 runs, while England took 247 runs to take a lead of 23 runs. After this, the second innings of Team India started in the last session of the day and this time Yashasvi Jaiswal started a rage for him. Jaiswal failed in the first innings and was dismissed by just 2 runs. But this time, he started a strong start by collecting 3 fours in the third over itself.
2 life to Jaiswal
The effect of Jaiswal’s explosive start was that he completed 50 runs in just 11.3 overs, while Jaiswal himself completed the half -century in 44 balls. But apart from the batting of Jaiswal, England also helped Team India with poor fielding. England lost 3 catches within just 45 minutes and lost the opportunity to send Team India to the backfoot. Out of this, 2 catches were from Jaiswal.
First of all, Harry Brook made this mistake. In the 5th over of the Indian innings, Jaiswal played a fast shot on the fifth ball of Gas Atkinson but Harry Brook, posted on the third slip, dripped the catch. Jaiswal was then 20 runs and the team was on 22 runs. Then 40 minutes later, in the 14th over, Jaiswal played the pull shot off the josh tongue but on the deep fine leg, the substitute fielder Liam Dawson dripped the easy catch. Jaiswal was then 40 runs and India was on 55 runs.
Conspiring on Sudarshan too
Then after 5 minutes, Sai Sudarshan also got life in the next over. This time the bowler was Craig Overton and Jack Crolly dripped the catch in the slip off his ball. Sudarshan was just 7 runs then and the Indian score was 59 runs. Jaiswal took advantage of these life donations and hit a stormy half -century in just 44 balls. But Sudarshan was not so lucky and within the next 2 overs, he was out LBW on the score of just 11 runs. However, by the end of the second day’s play, India had scored 75 runs after losing 2 wickets and took a lead of 52 runs.
