Advocate commissioner was appointed because his personal presence could cause disorder in the High Court due to Dhoni’s celebrity.

Dhoni will be present during the hearing

Dhoni had filed an affidavit in which he expressed his desire to pursue the hearing of a defamation trial pending since 2014. Dhoni said that he will be available for cross -examination between October 20, 2025 to 10 December 2025. Dhoni has said in the affidavit, “I will cooperate fully with the Advocate Commissioner and follow all the instructions issued regarding the lawsuits and evidence.” Explain that the hearing of the case was delayed by more than 10 years because the parties had filed several applications for different reliefs. In December 2023, Justice S.S. Beautiful and Sundar Mohan’s bench convicted the retired IPS officer of criminal contempt and sentenced him to a 15 -day simple imprisonment. However, in 2024, the Supreme Court stayed this sentence.
