Bangalore stampede: RCB, Karnataka government allowed to run case

IPL 2025 champion Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is badly trapped. The franchise, who won its first title, will now face criminal trial in a stampede case in Bengaluru. In this case, the Karnataka government has now allowed the case against RCB. This decision of the government has come in the report of the Inquiry Commission, in which RCB and Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) were convicted of the incident. Along with RCB, the approval has been raised to prosecute KSCA.

RCB won the title for the first time by winning the IPL final on 3 June. Then a day later, on June 4, the RCB team returned to their city Bangalore and during this time there was a sudden stampede at M Chinnaswamy Stadium amid the victory, in which 11 people died. About 50 people were also injured in the accident. After this dreadful incident, the Karnataka government formed a member inquiry commission under the leadership of retired Justice Michael D’Kunha.

Action against accused including RCB, KSCA

Justice Dicunha’s report was presented before the Karnataka cabinet last week, which was approved on Thursday 24 July. In this report, apart from RCB and KSCA, event management company DNA Entertainment Network Private Limited was also convicted. In this case, Karnataka Law Minister HK Patil told the news agency PTI, “The cabinet has decided to accept Justice John Michael Dicunha’s report and initiate legal action based on it.

Investigation will also be against government officials

Not only this, in this report, questions have been raised on the police and government departments and the Law Minister said that investigation will also be done against the accused officers. Patil clearly stated that the names of people and institutions responsible for this dreadful incident of stampede and negligence are recorded in the report of Justice Dicunha. Justice Dicunha was entrusted with the responsibility of this investigation on 5 June, when Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah announced the formation of the Commission of inquiry under his leadership.
