Whether or not Mahendra Singh Dhoni will play in the next IPL season, this question is on the tongue of every fan since the day, since the previous season has ended. Dhoni himself has never given a clear answer about this. After the end of the last season, the former captain of Chennai Super Kings had said that he would take a decision after a few months after playing in IPL 2026. But now it seems that Dhoni is scheduled to play in the next season and in addition to his fitness, a special person will also have a role. These people are the owner of Chennai Super Kings N Srinivasan, who bought MS Dhoni in the first auction in 2008.
According to a report by Revspports, Srinivasan has once again become the chairman of Chennai Super Kings and its impact can now be seen directly in the next IPL season. Srinivasan, who has been running away from the team management for the last several years, has now returned to run the team again. It has been told in the report that the impact of Srinivasan’s good relationships with Dhoni may be seen in the next season and Dhoni may be seen on the field for Chennai Super Kings even at the age of 44 years.
In this report, CSK sources have claimed that the return of Srinivasan means that by moving forward, he will take decisions or approve them in matters related to cricket in the franchise. According to this, captain Rituraj Gaikwad, Coach Stephen Fleming and Dhoni will take decisions on cricket related matters and then take them to Srinivasan, who will give a final verdict on it. Dhoni’s decision to play in the next season may also be a part of it.
However, the next season is expected to begin in March 2026, while the auction is likely to be held in December-January before that. In such a situation, the decision of whether Dhoni will participate in it is expected to be around the auction. Dhoni has already said many times that he will decide on this only after seeing his fitness because he plays cricket only 2 months in a year and then it is a big challenge for him to maintain his fitness. Dhoni has been struggling with a knee injury for the last 2-3 seasons and in 2024 he also underwent surgery, due to which there is always doubt about his playing.
