Delhi Capitals Out Of IPL 2025 : The play-off race has finally drawn its line in the sand — and unfortunately for Delhi Capitals, they’ve found themselves on the wrong side of it.
In what turned out to be a virtual knock-out clash at the Wankhede, Mumbai Indians held their nerve and delivered a clinical performance to defeat Delhi Capitals, effectively knocking the Rishabh Pant-led side out of the play-off race. With the win, Hardik Pandya’s Mumbai Indians became the fourth and final team to qualify for the IPL 2025 play-offs, joining Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Punjab Kings.
Mumbai Seal the Deal, Delhi Left to Regret
The stakes were sky-high coming into the match, but it was the five-time champions Mumbai Indians who rose to the occasion. Their experienced core, coupled with their superior net run rate, ensured there would be no last-minute heartbreak this time.
With 16 points from 13 matches and an outstanding net run rate of +1.156, Mumbai’s position is now unassailable by Delhi. The Capitals, who have 13 points from 13 games, can only reach a maximum of 15 even if they win their final league game — not enough to leapfrog Mumbai.
This marks a disappointing end to what has been a roller-coaster campaign for Delhi. Despite showing flashes of brilliance, they couldn’t find the consistency needed to stay in the top four.
Play-Off Teams Confirmed, But The Order Still in Flux
While the top four teams are now known, the final league positions are far from decided. A fierce battle for the top two spots — which offer the advantage of two chances to reach the final — is still very much alive.
Gujarat Titans currently lead the table with 18 points from 12 matches and a commanding net run rate of +0.795. They remain favorites to finish at the top, but with two matches left, nothing is guaranteed.
Royal Challengers Bangalore and Punjab Kings are both breathing down Gujarat’s neck, sitting at 17 points each from 12 games. RCB holds a slightly better NRR (+0.482) than Punjab (+0.389), and both sides will be eager to capitalize on their remaining fixtures to secure a top-two finish.
Mumbai Indians, despite having just one game left, could also make a move if results elsewhere go in their favor. With a sky-high net run rate, a win in their final game could help them climb, should RCB or Punjab falter in their last two matches.

Crunch Time Ahead
With only a few league matches remaining, the next few days promise to be a nail-biting spectacle. Gujarat Titans will aim to solidify their top spot, while RCB and Punjab will battle it out for the upper hand and a direct ticket to Qualifier 1.
As for Mumbai, their work isn’t done yet. One final push could see them leap up the table, depending on how the remaining matches unfold.
But for Delhi Capitals, it’s time for introspection. Another season of unfulfilled promise, and questions will be asked about team composition, leadership decisions, and execution under pressure.
The IPL 2025 league phase is reaching its climax, and fans can expect nothing less than fireworks in the final leg before the grand play-off drama begins.
