The England cricket team, which is constantly struggling in ODI cricket, is on the target of everyone. Some players of the team have been especially victims of criticism. In this, there is one young all -rounder Jacob Bethel, whose selection has been under question. But now this player presented such a view of the explosive innings, which showed the real glimpse of his talent. In the third and last match of the ODI series against South Africa, Bethel scored a scorch in just 76 balls. This was not only the first century of Bethel’s international cricket, but also in professional cricket.
There was talk of saving respect in the last match for England, which has already lost ODI series against South Africa. But not only the team, but for some players, this was the opportunity to prove themselves, including 21 -year -old Bethel. The left -handed batsman had scored an explosive half -century in the last match, but his performance was yet to be seen and the ability to play a big innings. In the last match on Sunday 7 September in Southampton, he passed his test on both these fronts.
Half -century in 28 balls
Jacob Bethel landed for batting in the 17th over of the innings, when England had fallen 2 wickets and the score was beyond 100 runs. In such a situation, this young batsman formed a good partnership with Joe Root and crossed the score of 50 consecutively in this series. He completed his half -century in 48 balls. But as soon as he crossed fifty, he changed the gear and paid more attention to collecting the boundary. With the changed attitude, Bethel completed the journey from 50 runs to 100 runs in the next 28 balls. This batsman completed his first century in international cricket on the 76th ball. Bethel scored 110 runs (13 fours, 3 sixes) in 82 balls.
Firstly scored a century in full career
In IPL 2025, this century was special in many ways for Bethel, who played some important innings for Royal Challengers Bangalore, but the most important was because he touched the 100 mark for the first time in his senior professional cricket career. Earlier, he could not score a century in international cricket, even in domestic cricket. Bethel had played 134 matches in the first class (including Test), List-A (including ODI) and T20 (including T20I) and could not score a century even once. Due to this, his selection was under question many times. But in his 135th match, he also finished this wait.
