It was decided to increase GST on IPL ticket at the GST Council meeting held in New Delhi on September 3 under the chairmanship of Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. It has increased by 12 %. Its effect can be seen during IPL 2026.
GST will look so much on tickets
In GST Council meeting IPL tickets But it was decided to put 40 % GST. Earlier it was 28 %. This can make IPL tickets more expensive. This will directly affect the tickets of the ticket fans. If they go to the stadium to watch the match, then they will have to pay more price to get tickets.
Earlier, there used to be 28% GST on IPL ticket of Rs 1000. Due to this, the total price of the ticket was Rs 1280. Now according to the new rate, the price of this ticket will be Rs 1400. That is, fans will have to pay 120 rupees more. Similarly, instead of Rs 640 on a ticket of 500 rupees, you will now have to pay 700 rupees. At the same time, on the ticket of 2000, fans will have to pay 2800 rupees instead of 2560. Its effect can be seen in the stadium during IPL 2026.
Fans may be reduced in stadium
There may be a shortage of fans in the stadium if the price of IPL ticket increases. IPL During the matches, a large number of fans go to the stadium and enjoy the match, but now their number can decrease. This can affect the popularity of IPL. On the other hand, GST has not been imposed on recognized sports events.
If the cost of a recognized sports event is Rs 500, then there will be no GST on it, while there will be 18 % GST on tickets worth more than that. Apart from this, the GST Council has also decided to impose 40 % GST on activities like betting, gambling, lottery, horse rally and online money gaming.
