Indian team veteran player Ajinkya Rahane played his last international match in 2023. He participated for the last time against West Indies in July 2023 for Team India. Recently, he revealed that he still wants to play Test cricket. He said this during the Lord’s Test match between India and England. Not only this, he also revealed that he spoke to the Indian selectors but did not get a reply back from anyone.
Desperate to return to Test cricket
Talking on Sky Sports, the former Indian captain said, ‘I still want to play Test cricket. To tell the truth, I tried to talk to the selectors, but the thing is that I cannot control things as a player. I did not get any answer from their side. As a player, I can only play cricket and enjoy my game. I need to give 100 percent in my game. This is my job and I think about it.
The chief selector of the Indian team is Ajit Agarkar who has given a chance to many players in the last two years. However, senior batsman Rahane has not been able to return to Team India since Agarkar became the Chief Selector. Even though Ajinkya Rahane is not getting a chance from the Indian cricket team, but he has won the hearts of fans by performing brilliantly in domestic cricket. He is continuously batting well for Mumbai. In IPL 2025 also, this player showed his strength but he was constantly failing to play tremendous cricket. There are also many fans who want to see Rahane playing again for Team India.
Ajinkya Rahane’s performance
Ajinkya Rahane has scored 5077 runs in 85 matches in Test cricket at an average of 38.46 and his best score is 188 runs. He has 26 half -centuries and 12 centuries in his name. One of these centuries came in 2014 at the same ground of Lord’s, which was won by Team India. An experienced player against England has scored 840 runs in 21 Tests at an average of 22.70 and his best score is 103 runs.
