ICC boundary catch rule 2025 : You must have seen many times while jumping on the boundary in cricket, but now there are some changes in the rules of catching the catch, which can be considered as an eyegle to catch a surprise catch on the boundary. Now ICC and MCC have decided to make major changes in the rules of such catch. According to the new rules, now the ‘bunny hop’ on the boundary will be considered as the elie. The word ‘bunny hop’ means when a player jumps into the air after going out of the boundary and throws the ball inside and catchs the catch. In such a situation, the ball will have to be touched by staying inside the boundary.
What will happen?
As part of a change in the rules of catching a catch on the boundary, such catch will still be allowed, in which the fielders push the ball from inside the boundary and go out of the boundary. Then come inside the boundary and catch that catch, but if any kind of contact with the ball from outside the boundary will be considered as the beloved. Apart from this, the fielder can catch the ball outside the boundary only once and catch the catch.
Both players have to live inside the field
Earlier on several occasions, the players standing on the boundary used to bounce the ball outside the boundary and bring it inside the boundary, but now these catches will not be valid. At the same time, when two players take a catch on the boundary, then both of them will have to stay inside the boundary.
That is, a fielder bounces the ball on the boundary in the air and if he goes outside the boundary, then that player will also have to come inside the ground before catching the catch inside the boundary of another player, only then this catch will be valid. If the new rules are implemented, catch will no longer be valid for Chennai Super Kings against Michael Neser in 2023 Big Bash League and Punjab Kings in 2025.
Why have the questions arise on these catch?
During the Big Bash League (BBL) in the year 2023, Michael Neser’s boundary catch was questioned. After this, there was a demand for change in the rules of catch. It happened that during the match played between Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers in BBL 2023, Sydney Sixers batsman Jordan Silk played a loud shot on the long off.
Brisbane Heat player Michael Naser grabbed the ball on the boundary but could not make his balance, after which he bounced the ball in the air outside the boundary, then went outside the boundary and grabbed the ball and jumped into the air again and then came inside and caught the catch. The umpire called Silk out, but silk was not happy with this. There was a lot of controversy about this catch.
Matthew Wade’s catch was under question
Similarly, in the year 2020, there was a similar incident in another BBL match. The match was played between Hobert Hurques and Brisbane Heat. In fact, in the first innings, Hobert Hurricane captain Matthew Wade played a shot on the boundary on the fourth ball of the 15th over. Matte Ranshaw of Brisbane Heat, standing on the boundary, jumped into the air and threw the ball inward, which was caught by his fellow player Tom Botan. The third umpire called Wade out. However, Matt Ranshaw fell outside the boundary. Questions were also raised about this catch.
