The West Indies team is currently on a tour of England, where the 3 -match ODI series is being played between the two teams. The first match of the series was played on 29 May 2025 at Edgbaston, in which England defeated West Indies by 238 runs. After this defeat, the West Indies have now suffered another major setback. The International Cricket Council has taken big action against the West Indies players and sentenced all the players.

ICC’s big action against West Indies

The International Cricket Council has sentenced the West Indies team due to the slow over rate. The ICC has taken this action on the West Indies team due to throwing one over within their scheduled time. According to the ICC rules, a team has to complete their bowling within the scheduled time in ODIs. If the team fails to do so, then it is considered guilty of slow over rate. The West Indies team remained one over behind in this match, so all the players have been fined.

ICC issued a press release saying, ‘Emirates ICC Elite Panel match referee Jeff Crow has imposed a five percent fine of match fees on each player, as Shai Hope’s team was found to be one over at the end of the innings, keeping in mind the time exemption. This fine is in line with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for players and players assistant personnel, which is related to minimum over-per-rate offenses. According to ICC rules, players are fined five percent of their match fees for each over, which fails to bowl within the stipulated time.

England recorded unilateral victory

The match proved to be a memorable start for England’s new ODI captain Harry Brook. Batting first, England scored a huge score of 400 runs, in which Jacob Bethel scored a stormy innings of 82 runs in 53 balls. Harry Brook also scored 58 runs in 45 balls and hit three sixes. In response, the West Indies team collapsed for 162 runs. England fast bowlers Saqib Mahmood and Jamie Overton took three wickets each, while Bethel also impressed with his left-arm spin. This was England’s second biggest win in ODI cricket with a margin of runs.
