Former captain and veteran player of the Indian cricket team Mahendra Singh Dhoni has taken a big decision, due to which he has come into the discussions. Dhoni, who is identified for his cool image on on-field, has taken a big step. MS Dhoni has applied to trademark the ‘Captain Cool’. The application was filed on 5 June 2025 and was published in the official trademark journal on 16 June.

No one will be able to use Captain Cool’s name

If MS Dhoni gets trademark rights of the word Captain Cool, then no person or institution will be able to use the word Captain Cool. The move indicates that Dhoni is working towards further strengthening his brand value. However, no official statement has come from Dhoni on this matter yet. Interestingly, before Dhoni, another company, Prabha Skill Sports (OPC) Private Limited, had also filed a trademark application for ‘Captain Cool’. But the status of that application is currently appearing ‘filed for improvement’, due to which Dhoni’s claim looks strong.

At the same time, it was argued by Dhoni that the name ‘Captain Cool’ has been associated with Dhoni for the last several years and it has been adopted by the public, media and fans on a large scale. Let me tell you, MS Dhoni has been given the name of Captain Cool by his fans. As a captain, he used to remain quite calm in the field on every occasion. He was never seen angry even in big matches, this is the reason why the fans gave this name.

3 ICC Trophy to Team India

Dhoni under his captaincy gave India the title of T20 World Cup in 2007, ODI Cup in 2011 and Champions Trophy in 2013. Both took a big step on important occasions in these three tournaments. In the 2007 T20 World Cup, he gave the last over to Joginder Sharma, which proved to be a game changing. In the 2011 ODI World Cup, he also sent himself up for batting in the final and played a match winning innings. At the same time, in the 2013 Champions Trophy, he defended a target of 130 runs in the final against England.
