Team India is waiting to win the Test series in England for the last 18 years. Under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid, Team India achieved this feat in 2007, but since then, there has been a defeat in India’s bag on this tour. Now once again the Indian team has lagged behind in the series and now there are two matches left in front of it. Will Team India be able to finish their wait by returning to these two matches? The 90 -year long history of Indian cricket tells that this dream will not be fulfilled this time too.
A young and inexperienced Indian team led by the new captain Shubman Gill came on this England tour. In such a situation, there were not much expectations from Team India from the beginning. But the way Team India performed strongly from the first match of the series, it surprised everyone. Even the Indian team won on the grounds of Edgbaston, where it had never won a Test match before. But then India got defeated by coming close to victory in Lord’s.
Team India never got success
With the defeat in the Lord’s Test, Team India lagged behind 1-2 in the 5 match series. This scorline is not good for Team India because history is not in favor of the Indian team. Records of the old series show that whenever the Indian team is 1-2 backward in a series, they have never won that series. Far from winning, the Indian team has not been able to draw the series after this scoreline.
It has happened only 3 times in the history of cricket till date, when the team won the series despite falling 2–1 or 1-0 by the third match of a 5-Test series. In 1936, Australia first won the series after trailing 1-2 against England. Then in 1992-93, West Indies had named the series despite trailing by 0–1. Similarly, England defeated South Africa after trailing 0–1 in 1998.
There is a dual challenge in Manchester
That is, the record of Team India is not in its favor. In such a situation, he has to change history. This challenge for Team India also doubles because the fourth Test match is to be played in Manchester and Team India has not won till date. India has played a total of 9 Test matches on the ground of Old Trafford, out of which it has lost 4, while 5 have been drawn. Therefore, if the dream of Team India is not fulfilled once again, then it will not be surprising.
