IPL 2025 Mayank Yadav Injury : After a week-long pause due to rising India-Pakistan tensions, the IPL 2025 season is all set to resume from Saturday, May 17, with the remaining 17 matches. However, several franchises are now forced to make major squad changes due to foreign players returning to their home countries and refusing to return for the remaining games. Among them, Lucknow Super Giants have suffered a massive blow — young pacer Mayank Yadav has been ruled out of the tournament with a recurring back injury. Meanwhile, Punjab Kings have brought back New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson, marking his return to the IPL after four years.
Mayank Yadav’s Injury Halts His IPL Comeback
Just 48 hours before the tournament restart, the IPL issued a press release on May 15 confirming that Mayank Yadav has once again suffered a back injury and will not be part of the remaining matches. This is the second consecutive season the promising pacer has been sidelined due to fitness issues. In 2024, he played only four matches before getting injured, and in the current season, he returned after missing nine games only to play two matches before breaking down again.
With Mayank out, Lucknow Super Giants have signed New Zealand’s 6-foot-4 fast bowler Will O’Rourke as a replacement. The young Kiwi pacer, who impressed during a Test series against India earlier this year, will make his IPL debut and has reportedly been signed for ₹3 crore. Although he went unsold in the mega auction, his recent international performance caught the attention of LSG.
Jos Buttler Exits, Gujarat Ropes In Kusal Mendis
In other changes, Gujarat Titans, currently among the top teams under Shubman Gill’s captaincy, will be without their star English batter Jos Buttler. While Buttler is returning for a few games, he won’t be available during the playoffs. To address this, Gujarat has signed Sri Lankan wicketkeeper-batter Kusal Mendis for the rest of the season. Mendis, known for his aggressive strokeplay, has been signed for ₹75 lakh.
Punjab Kings Replace Lockie Ferguson With Kyle Jamieson
Punjab Kings have also made a strategic move. With Lockie Ferguson ruled out due to injury earlier in the season, the franchise has now officially named Kyle Jamieson as his replacement. Standing at 6’7″, Jamieson makes his comeback to the IPL after a four-year hiatus. The last time he played was in 2021, when he was bought for a whopping ₹15 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was later released and then picked by Chennai Super Kings, though he couldn’t play due to injury.
Now, Jamieson returns to IPL 2025 with the Punjab Kings, signed for ₹2 crore. His height, pace, and bounce could be a key asset on Indian pitches as Punjab looks to push for a playoff spot.
Final Word
As IPL 2025 gears up for its thrilling second phase, injuries and last-minute changes continue to affect team strategies. While the loss of young stars like Mayank Yadav is unfortunate, the inclusion of experienced names like Jamieson and Mendis adds fresh excitement to the tournament’s climax.
