Kyle Jamieson IPL 2025 : In a significant mid-season development, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have roped in New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson as a replacement for the injured Lockie Ferguson, the Indian Premier League (IPL) confirmed on Thursday, May 15. The Kiwi quick has joined the PBKS camp for Rs. 2 crore ahead of the final stretch of the league stage.
Ferguson, a regular fixture in Punjab’s pace unit this season, has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a hamstring injury. The 33-year-old speedster featured in four matches in IPL 2025, claiming five wickets at an economy of 9.18 and a bowling average of 20.80. Known for his raw pace and aggressive bowling style, Ferguson’s absence will be felt, especially as PBKS gear up for the business end of the season.
The IPL’s official release stated:
“Punjab Kings (PBKS) have picked Kyle Jamieson as a replacement for Lockie Ferguson, who is ruled out of the remainder of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 due to a hamstring injury. The right-arm Kiwi pacer will join PBKS for INR 2 Crore.”
Jamieson’s Return To IPL
The move marks a comeback for Kyle Jamieson, who had gone unsold during the IPL 2025 mega auction. However, with Ferguson’s injury creating an opening, Jamieson now gets a fresh opportunity to make his mark in the league.
This will be the towering New Zealander’s second stint in the IPL. Jamieson last featured in the 2021 season for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he played nine matches, picked up nine wickets, and maintained a bowling average of 29.88 with an economy rate of 9.61. Though his debut season saw flashes of potential, he hasn’t featured in the league since — until now.
Jamieson brings a unique skillset to PBKS: a 6’8” frame, bounce-generating action, and handy lower-order hitting — a profile that could prove valuable on Indian surfaces as Punjab look to maintain their playoff push.
PBKS Eyeing Playoff Berth
Led by Shreyas Iyer, PBKS are currently sitting in third place on the IPL 2025 points table with 15 points from 11 matches. They have notched up seven wins and suffered three losses, maintaining a healthy net run rate of +0.376. With just a few league games remaining, every point is crucial in the tightly contested playoff race.
Punjab’s next challenge will be against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Sunday, May 18, a fixture that could further shape the playoff equation. With Jamieson now in the squad, it will be interesting to see if the Kiwi quick is thrown into action straight away or if the team management takes a cautious approach with his inclusion.
Final Thoughts
While Lockie Ferguson’s injury is undoubtedly a setback, PBKS have done well to bring in a solid replacement in Kyle Jamieson. For the Kiwi pacer, it’s a second chance — a shot at redemption after being overlooked in the auction. For Punjab Kings, it’s about keeping the momentum alive and aiming for their maiden IPL title.
One thing’s for sure — with the league heading toward a dramatic finish, Kyle Jamieson’s addition adds a fresh twist to Punjab Kings’ campaign.
