Mitchell Starc IPL 2025 : Mitchell Starc to Miss IPL 2025 Phase 2 | Big Blow for Delhi Capitals

Mitchell Starc IPL 2025 : The writing was on the wall, and now it’s official. Mitchell Starc will not return for the second phase of IPL 2025. The veteran Australian pacer has decided against flying back to India, dealing a major blow to the Delhi Capitals‘ playoff hopes.

The IPL had been temporarily suspended for a week due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan. With both countries stepping back from the brink of conflict, the tournament is set to resume from May 17. Delhi Capitals are scheduled to play their next match on May 18, Sunday, against Gujarat Titans. With a playoff spot hanging in the balance, this clash is of immense importance for Axar Patel, KL Rahul, and the rest of the Delhi squad.

However, the news of Starc’s absence has raised serious concerns within the franchise. The experienced left-arm pacer had played in the match against Punjab Kings at Dharamsala, which was later declared null and void due to a blackout. Following that chaos, several overseas players headed back home. Rumors started swirling, and now sources have confirmed—Starc won’t be returning for the rest of the season.

This isn’t the first overseas setback for Delhi. They had already lost young Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk, who too opted not to return for the second leg of the IPL. In response, the franchise roped in Bangladeshi pacer Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement. However, Mustafizur’s participation remains uncertain, as the Bangladesh Cricket Board is yet to issue him a No Objection Certificate (NOC).

Starc has been one of Delhi’s key performers this season. In 11 matches, he picked up 14 wickets, often providing crucial breakthroughs. His absence leaves a glaring hole in Delhi’s bowling unit, which is already under pressure as the league heads into its most critical phase.

Delhi Capitals still have to face Gujarat Titans, Mumbai Indians, and Punjab Kings—three must-win games if they are to make it to the playoffs. Without Starc’s experience and firepower with the ball, the road ahead looks steeper.

Now, all eyes are on the Delhi think tank to see who steps up to fill the void left by the Australian speedster. Will it be an emerging Indian pacer, or can Mustafizur, if cleared, shoulder the responsibility?

One thing is certain—Delhi’s margin for error is shrinking, and time is running out.
