Both boards are trying to save their respective tournaments from weakening. According to the report, in the discussions during the World Test Championship final at Lord’s this month, ECB and BCCI showed solidarity to oppose the new league. Both the boards agreed that they would not give ‘No Objection Certificate’ (NOC) to their players to join this new league, as well as ask the ICC not to support it.
However, Cricket Australia (CA) is considered to be keen to partner in this league with Saudi investors. The important objective for CA is to make a profit from cash inflow coming from private investors, as the Big Bash League (BBL) franchise is in the governing body and the states. On the other hand, the IPL is a $ 12 billion league, and ECB is scheduled to get 520 million pounds ($ 700 million) from the sale of 49% of the ‘Hundred’ franchise. According to the report, three years ago, Cricket South Africa had raised more than 100 million pounds ($ 136 million) by selling franchisees in the SA20 competition, in which the IPL owners took part.
