Mustafizur IPL News : In yet another confrontation with the BCCI, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has stirred controversy by reportedly denying star pacer Mustafizur Rahman permission to play in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. Despite Delhi Capitals’ surprise announcement of signing Mustafizur as a replacement for injured Australian batter Jake Fraser-McGurk, the left-arm seamer’s availability is now under serious doubt due to national duty.
Delhi Signs Mustafizur – But There’s a Twist
In a move that caught many off guard, Delhi Capitals confirmed on Wednesday that they have signed Mustafizur Rahman for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. The announcement came after their overseas quota took a hit, with speculation rife that star pacer Mitchell Starc might not be available for the rest of the tournament. With that in mind, Delhi turned to the experienced Bangladeshi left-armer, who has been a dependable IPL campaigner over the years.
However, what seemed like a tactical masterstroke quickly turned into a diplomatic headache.
BCB Claims It Wasn’t Informed
According to sources in Bangladesh, the cricket board was not officially informed about Mustafizur’s signing by Delhi Capitals. This has created a conflict, as Bangladesh is currently scheduled to play a two-match T20I series against the UAE in Sharjah on May 17 and 19. The national team has already flown to the Emirates, and Mustafizur is with them — something he confirmed himself via a social media post.
This situation has sparked confusion among fans and cricket officials alike. While Delhi Capitals expected Mustafizur to join their squad immediately, his commitment to Bangladesh’s national duty appears to be non-negotiable, at least for now.
IPL vs Country – Again
This isn’t the first time a national board has restricted player participation in the IPL, but the timing of BCB’s resistance — and the apparent lack of communication with BCCI or Delhi Capitals — raises eyebrows. Especially since Mustafizur has been part of the IPL setup for several years now, playing for Chennai Super Kings in 2024 and Delhi Capitals in 2023.
Interestingly, during the 2025 IPL auction, no Bangladeshi cricketer was picked by any franchise, despite 12 players registering themselves. That made Delhi’s mid-season call-up for Mustafizur all the more surprising, and perhaps symbolic — a show of faith in his skills, when others had overlooked him.
But that trust might now go unrewarded.
Will Mustafizur Play for Delhi at All?
As of now, it remains unclear whether the BCB will release Mustafizur for the IPL following the UAE series, or if he’ll miss the remainder of the tournament entirely. With Delhi struggling in the middle of the table and desperate for bowling reinforcements, having an experienced IPL campaigner like Mustafizur could prove critical to their playoff hopes.
But with national pride and board politics in play, the final decision may not be entirely cricket-based.
For now, Mustafizur remains in limbo — and Delhi Capitals fans can only hope the BCB softens its stance before it’s too late.
