The qualifier 2 match of IPL 2025 was played between Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In this match, the Punjab team captained by Shreyas Iyer managed to win by 5 wickets. The hero of this victory himself was captain Shreyas Iyer. He took the team to the title match on the basis of his explosive innings. With this victory, he also took a special record of IPL. Iyer showed such a feat, which no captain could do before.
Shreyas Iyer became the first captain in IPL
Qualifier of IPL 2025 brought a historic moment for Shreyas Iyer. After reaching Punjab Kings after 11 years, Shreyas Iyer has become the first captain who has brought three different teams to the finals of IPL. Prior to Punjab, he has also reached the finals of Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Capitals. In 2024, he made KKR champions under his leadership. In that season, Kolkata performed brilliantly and won the title by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the final. Due to which KKR won the IPL Trophy after a long time.
Earlier, in 2020, Shreyas Iyer brought Delhi Capitals to the finals. That year, Delhi performed strongly throughout the tournament and made it to the finals for the first time. However, he suffered a defeat against Mumbai Indians in the final. Nevertheless, Shreyas’s captaincy was praised everywhere, because he played an important role in bringing a young team to such a big platform.
Now Punjab’s eye on the first title
Now in 2025, Shreyas Iyer has created a new history by taking Punjab Kings to the finals. In Qualifier 2, Punjab achieved a record target of 204 runs against Mumbai Indians, which is the biggest run chase ever in the IPL playoffs. Shreyas’s strategy and his leadership contributed to this victory. He kept his team united in difficult circumstances and got his best performance from the players. Due to which the Punjab team managed to reach the final after 11 years. Now this team is far away from their first IPL title.
