Sri Lanka vs Bangladesh 1st Test WTC 2025 : The World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 is going to start from 17 June. The first match of this championship will be played between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in the Gaul ground. The Bangladesh team has reached Sri Lanka to play a series of two Test matches. This match is very important in many sense. This will be the last Test match of former Sri Lankan captain Angelo Mathews. After this, he will take retirement from Test cricket. Apart from this, during this Test match, the International Cricket Council (ICC) is going to implement it in a new rule, which will stop the arbitrariness of the teams. Also, the thrill in Test cricket will increase further.

Concisition subsidy rules will be applicable

The first Test match will be played between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh at Gaul ground from 17 June. This match will apply the Convention Substitute Rules. Under this, before the toss is done, both teams will have to tell the match referee to the names of five convention substations. It will include a wicketkeeper, a batsman, a fast bowler, a spinner and an all -rounder.

During this time, if a player is injured, then one of these five players will be allowed to play through the match referee. This rule will stop the arbitrariness of the teams, who used to call any player inside the field under the substitute. This rule will increase the thrill in WTC even more.

71 matches will be played in WTC

The ICC announced a schedule of WTC 2025-27 on 16 June. Under this, a total of 71 matches will be played between 9 teams for two years. It will start with a Test match between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in Gaul from Tuesday 17 June. In the WTC, Australia will play the most 22 matches this time, while England will have to play 21 matches.

Team India will have to play 18 matches during this time. Team India will start their campaign in WTC against England from June 20, but Sri Lanka and Bangladesh’s campaign will start from June 17, when they will take off to play the first Test match in the Gall ground. Sri Lankan captain Dhananjay D. Silva will do, while Bangladesh will be commanded by Najmul Hussain Shanto.

Matthews will play the last Test match

The first Test match to be held in Gaul will be the last Test match of Sri Lankan veteran Angelo Mathews. After this, he will take retirement from Test cricket. Therefore, the Sri Lankan team would like to win the first match of the two -Test series and give a great farewell to Mathews. The second Test match between the two teams will be played in Colombo between 25 and 29 June.

So far 26 Test matches have been played between the two teams. It has won 20 Sri Lanka, while Bangladesh has won only one match. There are five Test matches draw. The first Test match between the two countries was played in September 2001. Bangladesh won the only match against Sri Lanka in March 2017.
