There is often some drama in the Test match to be held at Lord’s. Then whether they are in a tremendous competition of both teams or due to any conflict or due to any disputed decision. The third match of the Test series between India and England also did not remain untouched, where sometimes there was a ruckus due to the change in the balls and sometimes on the decision of the umpire. On the third day of the match, questions were raised on not one but two consecutive decisions of the Bangladeshi umpire, which went against Team India and then proved wrong.
On Saturday 12 July, Team India’s first innings was going on on the third day of the match and it was close to crossing England’s 387 runs. The game of the third session of the day was going on and then Chris Woakes took the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja. After this, Akash Deep entered the crease and it was here that the whole drama started, which entertained the fans but also raised questions on the umpire.
2 consecutive wrong decisions
Actually, Akash Deep was given out on the first ball as soon as he came to the crease. LBW appealed to Vox and Bangladeshi umpire Saikat Sharafuddaula picked up his finger. But Akash knew that he was not out and he took DRS, from where the decision came in favor of India. Then the same situation happened after one ball and this time also gave LBW out on the ball of umpire Vox. This time too, Akash took DRS and the result was the same- the third umpire overturned the verdict.
Umpire Shafuddaula remained in dispute
As soon as the second decision also came in India’s favor, the noise of Indian fans in the stadium increased and apart from England, there was a strong hooting against the umpire. At the same time, questions started to arise on the umpire’s ability on social media too. Shafuddaula, who has done strong umpiring in both the first Tests, remained in constant controversy due to his decisions in the Lord’s Test, in which there was a decision to change the new ball to Team India, on which Indian captain Shubman Gill had an argument with him.
