Former leg -spinner Piyush Chawla, former 37 -year -old, released a statement on his social media accounts on Friday 6 June and informed the fans about retirement. Chawla said that he has decided to retire from all formats of cricket and all levels. Chawla wrote, “After spending two decades on the field, the time has come to speak goodbye to this beautiful game.”

Piyush Chawla has been a part of India’s World Cup winning team. In 2007, when Team India won the first T20 World Cup instead of MS Dhoni, Chawla was part of the team. At that time he was only 19 years old. However, he did not get a chance to play a single match then and had to wait till 2010 for his T20 debut. Apart from this, he was also in the team that won the ODI World Cup in 2011 and here he took 4 wickets after playing 3 matches. However, he could not get a chance in the final.
