R Ashwin ball tampering TNPL : A major controversy has emerged in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2025, in which Seichum Madurai Panthers have made serious allegations of ball tampering on Dindigul dragons, captained by R Ashwin. The case is related to the match played at the Salem Cricket Foundation Ground on 14 June, where the dragons defeated the panthers by 9 wickets. However, the organizers have directed the panthers to present concrete evidence to prove their claims, as the allegations seem based on speculation.
Serious allegations on Ashwin’s team
The panthers have claimed that the dragons used chemical towels during the match to tamper with the position of the ball. Mahesh S, CEO of Panthers, wrote a letter to TNPL officials demanding an inquiry into the source of these towels and accused the dragons of tampering with the ball. However, TNPL made it clear that these towels were given by the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association and both were equally available for teams. The process of drying the ball took place under the supervision of the field umpires.
TNPL’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Prasanna Kannan said in an email to the panthers that these allegations have been made after the match is over and they seem like stuck without proof. Kannan insisted that neither the field umpires nor the match referee filed a complaint of any such irregularity during the match or later. He also told that the umpires and sports control team had a close watch during the entire match on the ball. Also, TNPL is planning to set up an independent internal committee to investigate the matter.
Ashwin’s team won in a one -sided manner
Batting first in this match played in Salem, Madurai Panthers scored 150 runs losing 8 wickets in 20 overs. During this, Dragons captain R Ashwin did not get any wicket in bowling, and he gave 27 runs in 4 overs. However, in batting, Ashwin played a brilliant innings of 49 runs in 29 balls as an opener, due to which the dragons easily achieved the target in 12.3 overs. But now these allegations are questioning his victory.
