RCB vs SRH IPL 2025 : Just when Royal Challengers Bengaluru seemed to be finding their groove again in IPL 2025, just when fans thought the team had found their “re-in-form” avatar at the perfect moment, another sudden collapse dashed all hopes. A 42-run defeat to Sunrisers Hyderabad, spearheaded by a scintillating knock from Ishan Kishan, all but extinguished RCB’s ambitions of challenging for the top spot.
This wasn’t just another defeat. This was a momentum-breaker, and more heartbreak for a franchise that has flirted with potential but stumbled at the edge too many times.
Today’s match, originally scheduled at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, was shifted to the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow due to a mid-season IPL schedule shuffle. Lucknow became the stage, but for RCB, the script remained all too familiar.
Jitesh Singh walked out for the toss instead of regular captain Rajat Patidar, who is reportedly nursing a niggle. The toss was the first thing that went RCB’s way. They chose to field first. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there.
Sunrisers Hyderabad came out firing from the very first over. Abhishek Sharma wasted no time, hammering 34 off just 17 balls, setting the tone for an innings that screamed intent. Travis Head once again missed out, but Hyderabad didn’t falter. Ishan Kishan took over and lit up the evening in Lucknow with an explosive innings that left the RCB bowlers shell-shocked.
Ishan’s innings was a reminder of why he remains such a dangerous T20 prospect. He smoked 7 fours and 5 sixes, narrowly missing out on a well-deserved century. With support from Heinrich Klaasen (24 off 13) and Aniket Verma (26 off 9), Sunrisers rocketed to 231. Apart from Romario Shepherd’s two wickets, RCB’s bowling attack looked toothless, lacking both discipline and fire.
But if there was one sliver of hope for Bengaluru, it was the presence of Virat Kohli. Opening alongside Phil Salt, Kohli began with determination, showing shades of his old dominance. Phil Salt, despite battling an injury, kept the chase alive with aggressive strokeplay.
However, just as things were looking balanced, the old story returned. Harsh Dube played a rash shot to throw away his wicket, and soon after, Salt and Kohli both departed in quick succession. The lower order collapsed like a house of cards, and with that, so did RCB’s chances.
Hyderabad’s bowling unit, led superbly by Ishan Malinga, held their nerve in the death overs. Malinga, who has shown remarkable control in back-to-back games, once again played the finisher’s role—not with the bat, but with precise yorkers and clever variations.
The 42-run loss left fans stunned and the dugout deflated. RCB’s road to the playoffs now looks steep, and more critically, their rhythm seems lost just when it mattered the most.
If RCB wants to stay in contention, they’ll need not just results, but a serious reawakening.
