Suspense regarding BCCI President (Photo: PTI)
Roger Binny may have to withdraw from the post of President of BCCI. By the way, nothing is official about it right now. But, speculation is similar. The reason for this speculation is the rule of BCCI which is coming in the way of the current President Roger Binny. According to the rules recorded in the constitution of BCCI from the Supreme Court, the maximum age of 70 years has been fixed. This is the reason why questions are being raised about Binny’s eligibility to remain in the post. Roger Binny is 70 years old on 19 July this year.
Roger Binny’s age limit is coming in the way
According to the rule recorded on page 30 of the Constitution of BCCI, any officer who becomes 70 years old will be disqualified. In such cases, then the chairman will automatically replace the vice president. However, people close to former Indian all -rounder and World Cup winner argue that they can remain in the post until the annual general meeting in September i.e. AGM without signing any official document.
To further enhance this uncertainty is that the sports bill is to be introduced and passed in the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. Unlike the current BCCI Constitution, no strict limit of age has been fixed in the proposed law, so that the officials of the National Sports Association will be able to remain in the post till the age of 75 years. Sports Minister Mansukh Mandavia will introduce this bill, which is being said that it will “overridge the constitutions of all national sports associations”.
Neither BCCI nor any official statement came from Binny
So far no official statement has come from BCCI on this matter. The top officials of BCCI went to attend the ICC annual conference held in Singapore recently, so no response could be received from them. However, according to a source aware of the situation, clarity may come in the coming days.
In this case, no reaction has been received from Roger Binny. Binny from London, where he attended the Lord’s Test match, after returning to Bangalore, has gone to Thailand to celebrate his birthday with family. It is believed that he is spending holidays with family members on an island near Thailand-his daughters and grandchildren from Australia.
