With this, he became the second and 9th batsman of the world only in India who scored a double century and century in a Test match.
Setting a century after double century
Shubman Gill, who started his tour and his captaincy term with a century in the Leeds Test, also continued his wonderful form in Edgbaston. In the very first innings of this Test, Gill made history by scoring 269 runs. He became the Indian captain who played the biggest innings in Test cricket. If someone felt that Gill’s bat would no longer run in the second innings, then the star batsman also rejected this apprehension and in the second innings also he did a wonderful by scoring a century, which has been able to do less batsmen.
On Saturday 5 July, on the fourth day of this Test, when Team India came forward to carry out their second innings, its second wicket fell shortly. Captain Gill entered the ground here and after that he started his batting from where he finished in the first innings. No England batsman could disturb Gill and in the second session, the Indian captain completed a memorable century in 129 balls. He scored the 8th of Gill’s career, third of this series and fifth Test century against England.
54 years old history repeated
With this century, Gill did that amazing, which happened only 8 times before in the history of about 150 years of Test cricket. Shubman Gill, who scored a double century and century in a Test match, became only the 9th batsman in this world. But the most important thing is that this miracle has happened for the second time from India. Earlier, the great batsman Sunil Gavaskar scored 124 in the first innings against the West Indies and 220 in the second innings in 1971. Then Gavaskar was only the second batsman in the world to do so. However, this achievement of Gill is also special because he has done this wonders as a captain.
