SRH vs KKR IPL 2025 : “Just Didn’t Work Out”: Cummins Opens Up On SRH’s Rollercoaster IPL Campaign

SRH vs KKR IPL 2025 : Sunrisers Hyderabad wrapped up their IPL 2025 journey with a thumping 110-run victory over Kolkata Knight Riders, but the emphatic win only served as a reminder of what could have been. Despite finishing with one of their best performances of the season, SRH’s inconsistent run in the middle stages meant they fell short of a playoff spot.

Batting first, Hyderabad unleashed their signature attacking style, piling on 278 runs for the loss of just three wickets. The aggressive intent that defined their season was once again on display, with Heinrich Klaasen and Travis Head dismantling the KKR bowling unit. It was the third-highest total of this year’s IPL, bookending a campaign that had started with a similarly explosive 286 against Rajasthan Royals.

After the match, SRH captain Pat Cummins reflected on a season that started with promise but lacked consistency when it mattered most.

“It’s a great way to finish. Everything seemed to come together in the last few matches. Our batting was outstanding. We know we have the quality, but in some games, we were far from our best,” Cummins said.

He admitted that the team’s aggressive game plan wasn’t effective on all types of surfaces.

“There are pitches where you can go hard and post 250-plus, but there are others where you have to adjust and play smart to reach 170. That’s where we missed the mark. Still, I’m proud of how we kept fighting. A lot of players got game time. We probably used around 20 different guys, even with injuries and player changes.”

On the other side, Kolkata Knight Riders, last year’s champions, ended a disappointing campaign with yet another defeat. Their chase never gained momentum, and they were eventually bowled out for 168.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane credited Hyderabad’s batting effort but pointed to poor execution from his bowlers.

“They batted with intent and didn’t miss out on anything. Yes, we had plans — mixing up the pace, going wider — but we didn’t stick to those plans under pressure. Once players like Klaasen get going, they don’t give you a second chance,” Rahane said.

He was also critical of KKR’s bowling unit, which failed to execute their strategies effectively.

“Our execution wasn’t there. We made too many errors across the innings and couldn’t contain them. That cost us heavily.”

Rahane acknowledged that the season had several moments where KKR could have taken control but failed to do so collectively.

“There were a few close matches we should have won. If we had taken those chances, we could have been near the top of the table. That’s how close this tournament is. Every moment matters,” he added.

Despite finishing eighth with 12 points, Rahane chose to focus on the positives and promised a stronger comeback.

“No one’s holding back. Everyone gave their best. It’s a demanding format and things don’t always go your way. Still, no regrets. We’ll regroup and come back stronger next season.”

For Sunrisers Hyderabad, the win may not be enough to erase the sting of missing out on the playoffs, but it reaffirmed the firepower they possess when everything clicks. For Kolkata Knight Riders, it’s a season of missed chances and questions that will need answering before next year.

As the league moves into the final stages, both teams will watch from the sidelines, knowing that a few better decisions, or just a few better deliveries, could have written a very different story.
