One of the oldest cricket stadium in England, Old Trafford of Manchester is going to witness the competition of India and England once again. This is the ground where there has been no fight between the two countries for the last few years. But it is also a stadium, which has not proved to be good for Team India. In Test cricket, the Indian team has not won a single match here. But far away, no one has been able to score a century on this ground for 3 decades.
The fresh memory of the Indian team and its fans on this ground in Manchester has not been very good. Team India played the last big match here at the World Cup 2019. This was the semi -final match of the World Cup, in which the Indian team received a heart -breaking defeat. However, in that World Cup itself, Team India also registered a memorable victory against Pakistan in Old Trafford, in which Rohit Sharma scored a wonderful century. After this, Rishabh Pant also scored a century here in the 2022 ODI.
A century has not been scored after 1990
But if you talk about Test cricket apart from ODI cricket, then there are no good memories for Team India and its fans in Old Trafford. The victory has not been destined here till date, but the batsmen of Team India have also disappointed on this ground. Manchester has seen a drought of century for the last 35 years. The last Test century from India came on this ground in 1990. Then in the first innings of the match, captain Mohammad Azharuddin scored a century by captain Mohammad Azharuddin, while 17 -year -old Sachin Tendulkar scored a century in the second innings.
Will the long wait be over?
However, the second aspect of this is that after that match of 1990, the next Test was played between the two teams on this ground in 2014 and the Indian team got a crushing defeat by an innings and 54 runs. In that match too, the biggest innings of 71 runs for India was played by then captain MS Dhoni. After that there was no match between the two teams again. The last Test at this ground was to be played in the 2021 series but it was postponed due to the Corona virus infection and then the match was played in Edgbaston in 2022. In such a situation, will an Indian batsman raise his bat in the air after 35 years, it will be worth seeing.
