Mehidy Hasan Miraz new Bangladesh ODI captain : The performance of Bangladesh team has been very poor in ODI cricket for some time. He played his last ODI series in 2024 in November and December. In this 3-match ODI series, West Indies had won 3–0 against Bangladesh, as well as in the Champions Trophy 2025, the Bangladesh team could not leave their mark and they did not win in a match. In view of the continuous deteriorating performance, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has taken an important decision and has made experienced all -rounder Mehdi Hasan Miraj the new captain of the team in place of Najmul Hasan Shanto.
Changes in the captaincy of ODI team
Bangladesh’s brilliant player Mehdi Hasan Miraj will now be the new captain of the ODI team. BCB Cricket Operation Committee Chairman Najmul Abedin said, ‘Mehdi Hasan Miraj will captain the Bangladesh team for the next 12 months. We have taken this decision because he has performed well not only with the bat but also with bowling. He has the ability that he can encourage his team and is the best option to take charge of the ODI team.
Najmul Abedin further said, ‘We would like to thank Najmul Hasan. He has been very positive as captain. He has always been a part of the leadership group and we know that his batting is very important for the team.
Miraj has captained in four ODIs
After becoming the captain, the experienced all -rounder said, ‘This is a great respect for me. It is the dream of every cricketer to captain his national team and I would like to thank the board who expressed confidence in me and gave this important responsibility. Mehdi Hasan has played 105 ODIs for Bangladesh so far in which he has scored 1617 runs and has also taken 110 wickets.
Miraj is currently at the fourth position in the ICC ODI all -rounder rankings. Even before this, Mehdi has captained four ODIs for the Bangladesh team in Najmul’s unavailability. Bangladesh ODI team captaincy has been handed over to Mehdi Hasan Miraj while Litton Das is captaining the T20 team. In the Test format, Najmul Hasan Shanto will be seen captaining the Bangladesh team.
