On the fourth day of the third Test match being played between India and England at Lord’s, the decisions of the umpire were once again in controversies. The Indian team had to bear the brunt of these decisions, although the DRS (Decision Review System) gave some relief to the team. On the fourth day of the game, there was a ruckus on the decisions of the field umpire Paul Rifle. On one occasion, the Indian team was also very angry.

Shubman Gill was given out and then…

On the fourth day, during India’s second innings, Shubman Gill was called out on the first ball of Bridan Cars in the 15th over, but Gill saved his wicket by taking a review. The replay clearly showed that the ball was not hit by his bat, but umpire Paul Rifle gave Gill out without taking time. After which the Paul Rifle had to change his decision. However, this was not the only mistake of Paul Rifle. Earlier, during the innings of England, he gave a decision against India.

A similar incident came to light during England’s second innings, when Joe Root was made a big appeal for LBW by Mohammad Siraj. But umpire Paul Rifle called the route not out, and Team India resorted to the review. But the route survived due to the umpire call, which caused a big shock to the Indian team. Under the umpire call, the ball was seen hitting the stumps, but the decision of the on field umpire could not be changed. This decision tilted the balance in the match towards England and created resentment among the Indian fans.

There was a ruckus on the third day

On the third day of the match, there was also a ruckus on the decisions of Bangladeshi umpire, Saikat Shafuddaula. During India’s first innings, Akash Deep was given LBW out on his first ball during India’s first innings. But he survived due to DRS. After one ball, something similar happened again and Akash Deep was called LBW out. But Akash once again took DRS and he was not out.
