Kumar Sangakkara revealed that he came to know about Vaibhav Suryavanshi for the first time in the year 2023. Sangakkara told Sky Sports, ‘Suryavanshi has already proved herself as a very special talent. In 2023, an analyst of Rajasthan Royals sent me a message which said that there is a very special player that we have to keep an eye on. And I saw him live for the first time when we signed him, besides I also watched some videos of his batting on the nets in Guwahati, Jofra Archer and the rest of our fast bowlers were batting. And he made it very easy.

Sangakkara further said, ‘He had a lot of time, every time he touched the ball, his bat was like a gun bullet. His bat swing is amazing. They have a lot of time. Their activities are very simple and minimal. This is a beginning of their becoming even better and hopefully it will be very special.

There was a blast in IPL

On 19 April 2025, Vaibhav played his first IPL match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. He had cleared his intentions by hitting a six against Shardul Thakur on his first ball. After this, he shocked the cricket world against Gujarat Titans by playing an innings of 101 runs in 35 balls in Jaipur. His innings included 11 sixes and 7 fours.
