Before the start of Team India’s England tour, the only question on everyone’s tongue was- will the new Test captain Shubman Gill replace Virat Kohli on number-4 in Team India? If you play on number-4, will they be able to play memorable innings like Kohli or will it rain like that? Inside only 2 Tests, Gill has answered all these questions in a bang. By raining centuries in Leeds and Edgbaston, Gill proved that he is rightly entitled to this position. Seeing this wonderful performance of the Indian captain, Virat Kohli also could not stop himself and he praised Gill as ‘Star Boy’.
You are entitled to this- Kohli
After scoring a double century in the first innings of Edgbaston Test match, Indian captain Gill also scored a century in the second innings. Gill played a stormy innings on the fourth day of the match on Saturday 5 July and gave 161 runs in just 162 balls. With this, he became only the second batsman of India to score a double century and century in a Test match. While Gill broke many records from this innings, he also received the praise of veterans from all over the world. But in this, the most special thing for Gill said his ideal and former India captain Virat Kohli.
Kohli, who has been away from media and social media for some time, posted a story on his Instagram account after Gill’s century in the second innings. In this, Kohli put a photo of Gill and called him a star. Kohli wrote, “Very well played Star Boy. You are writing history again. Grow up and above here. You are entitled to all this.”

Gill broke Kohli’s record
Kohli started his captaincy in Test cricket on the tour of Australia in 2014 and scored 3 centuries in the first two matches. Like Kohli, Gill, who took command of India’s Test team as a young captain after about 11 years, also started his captaincy on foreign land and scored 3 centuries in the first 2 matches. Gill broke Kohli’s record. While Kohli scored 449 runs in his first series as a captain, Gill has scored 585 runs in only 2 matches. Not only this, Gill is now close to breaking the record of 592 runs of Kohli as captain in England.
