On Team India’s England tour, some players made a mark with their performance. The new captain Shubman Gill also made a good start by performing a strong performance with his bat. But despite this, there were many decisions which have raised questions on coach Gautam Gambhir and Captain Gill throughout the series. One such mistake was made by the pair of Gill and Gambhir during the Manchester Test and gave them a befitting reply by all -rounder Washington Sundar. During the first innings of England in this match, captain Gill and Gambhir did not show confidence in Sundar and then this bowler proved them wrong by taking two big wickets in a few overs.
England’s batting started on the second day of the fourth match of the Test series at Old Trafford Stadium. After Team India was dismissed for 358 runs, England started their first innings and on the second day their batsmen beat the Indian bowlers fiercely and gave 225 runs, while only 2 wickets fell. On the second day, Team India bowled 46 overs, in which every bowler spent a lot of runs. But during this time not a single over was given to Washington Sundar, which raised questions.
Sundar gave a befitting reply
In such a situation, when the third day started, it was expected that coach Gambhir and captain Gill would rectify this mistake in their strategy. But once again the same view was seen and in the first session, Sundar was not given the ball. When 22 overs were played in the first session, finally, Captain Gill finally remembered this off -spinner. After the completion of 68 overs of England’s innings, Sundar was called for bowling and then he did not take much time to succeed.
Before lunch, Sundar got a chance to bowl only 3 overs, but it was enough to show how much mistake Gill made him by not bowling. As soon as the second session started, Sundar started bowling and gave Team India a success within only 7 balls. He gave relief by breaking the 144 -run partnership by dismissing Oli Pope on the first ball of his fifth over. Sundar did not stop here and after two overs again, he stumped the aggressive batsman Harry Brook and stumped it.
Questions raised on serious strategy
Overall, where Team India had to wait for 38 overs for the third wicket, Sundar gave Team India a chance to return by taking 2 wickets within just 3 overs. With this performance, the Indian off -spinner also questioned the strategy and understanding of coach Gambhir and captain Gill. These questions also arose because in the last Test match played at Lord’s, Sundar bowled amazing and bowled 4 England batsmen in the second innings. Despite such a tremendous performance, it is natural for him to question the team management by not bowling for 68 overs.
