Anderson Tendulkar Trophy : The Indo-England series was earlier named Pataudi Trophy but now its name has been changed to Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. When the name of this trophy was changed, what Sachin did, now the master-blaster himself has revealed. Sachin Tendulkar told in an interview on Thursday that as soon as he came to know that the name of the Indo-England Test Series Trophy was being changed, he immediately approached the family of the late Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi. Sachin tried to maintain the legacy associated with this prestigious series of former Indian captain, which was later successful.
Sachin contacts Pataudi family
In an interview to PTI, Sachin said, ‘I know that a few months ago the BCCI and ECB retired the Pataudi Trophy. But when I came to know that the trophy is being named after me and James Anderson, my first phone call was for the Pataudi family. He further said, ‘Tiger Pataudi played a big role in inspiring many generations and it should never be forgotten. So I am happy with this conclusion.
New ‘Pataudi Medal’ and Sachin’s initiative
To maintain Pataudi’s name with the series, it has been decided that the winning captain will be given ‘Pataudi Medal for Excellence’. The decision was taken after several discussions with Sachin Tendulkar’s former BCCI secretary and current ICC chairman Jai Shah as well as ECB officials. Sachin told, ‘I talked to him. I told them everything. Also, I said that we will do everything possible to keep Pataudi’s legacy alive. After this I picked up the phone and talked to Jai Shah and ECB officials, and shared some views. Sachin said, ‘I am very happy that this kind of attention was given in our discussions and finally the option to give medals in his honor revealed.’ Sachin Tendulkar and James Anderson are veteran players of cricket. Sachin has played 200 and Anderson has played 188 Tests.
